PDP celebrates peace in Rivers
Members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,
in Rivers State embarked on a peace procession, weekend, in Port Harcourt,
celebrating peace in the state.
The procession led to a traffic gridlock on the
busy Aba Road as vehicles were held up on one spot for hours.
Addressing party faithful and others who
participated in the peaceful procession at the School of Arts and Science, the
state Chairman of the party, Mr Felix Obuah, said peace had returned to the
state, adding that Governor Nyesom Wike will continue to take steps to
consolidate on the new atmosphere of peace in the state.
He lauded those who turned up for the procession,
saying that it demonstrated their support for the state government and its
peace building measures.
Member representing Obio/ Akpor federal
constituency in the House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda and others who
spoke, dismissed claims by the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state
during its Black Rivers rally that about 100 persons were allegedly
killed over issues relating to the last general election.
Those who participated in the procession were
decked in white attire, an outfit, Obuah said, symbolised peace in the state
It will be recalled that the APC had a procession
in the state in memory of those allegedly killed during the last election
in the state.
